Snow + Rain + Ice + Snow= Lots of Worry!

Well, the weather has been the only thing to change around here lately. Quite amazing when you consider all God's hand can accomplish, all the different tasks and changes, etc. The children were on a 2 Hr delay on Monday due to snow. Then Tuesday we woke up to more snow. Shawn took this day off due to slow work. Then it started to snow Tues evening, then turned to rain around 11 p.m. Rained all night long with the temperature at 24 degrees! Started pouring at 4 a.m., then finally turned to ice for a few minutes at 10, then to huge snow flakes a few minutes later. Like, bigger than golf balls! That turned to the fine snow that really adds up quickly. So, we had about 2" snow, not sure how many inches of rain, (but enough to cause a small river in our back yard!), then 1/4 to 1/2 " ice, then about 4 more inches of snow. All the rain turned to ice of course. It looks beautiful, but Shawn had to go back to work on Wed, thats where the worry comes in! The fastest he could drive was 30 mph. The bad thing was he had to go pretty far away to work(close to your folks Megan) and it took 3 hrs to get there! So, I was frantic when I watched him slide down the driveway and thought I'm sure to have a heart attack if I don't stop this, and reassured myself who the Master planner is. The kids have loved the break, no school all week after Monday. And now, it is snowing again! We're very thankful that we were fortunate enough not to lose our power this week, with all the trees weighted down with ice. My sister was not so fortunate however and lost her power yesterday.

This will be all for now. Goodnight!

Warmer???

I wonder how it can be that 17 degrees can actually feel warm? I guess compared to the -1 degree from the past two mornings, that could account for something. The snow is actually starting to melt now. I have kept track, and for the past 2 weeks, we've had snow on the ground. Are you considered old if you say a sentence like,"Remeber when?".... Well, I was remembering when we were little children and snow was on the ground all winter. Then in March or April when it started melting we were so excited to see "green" grass. It was like after 4 months of seeing snow, you kinda forgot what grass looked like! This is the longest we've had snow on the ground for awhile. Hannah always likes to ask,"Mommy, back in the olden days, you know, when you was little..?" I don't consider the 80's the olden days but anyway, some day my children may grow older and say," I remember back in 09 there was snow on the ground for 2 weeks! Leigh, do you remember the olden days?:-)Does Mariah ask you that, too?
The sun is out full force now, and the temperature has went up 23 degrees since 6 this morning(we actually have 40 in the sun!). So, enjoy looking at your white wonderlands while you can.

Cold snap, more snow!

Like many others, we had a cold snap a couple days ago. At 10:30p.m. on Thursday, we had -10 on our porch. I can only imagine how cold it was at 2 or 3a.m.! It started snowing again late last night, and we had a couple new inches of snow this morning. Now it is snowing pretty good again.
Today, Shawn and I took our children out sled riding. I'll post a couple of pictures. We had one mishap while sledding. Shawn and Zach had both just rode down the hill and I was trying to get Josh on his sled and sent down the hill to Shawn (while holding Noah), and Hannah was on her sled behind me. I was just about to let him go, when Hannah slipped on her sled and came barrelling into me from behind. It knocked me off balance, and I fell sideways, backward onto Hannah.(It was either throw myself that way, or land on Josh, or fall on Noah the other way and risk sending him down the hill in his snowsuit.) I ended up sprawled somehow over Hannah with Noah on top of both of us. Shawn said he wished he had that on video! Poor Hannah got my arm in her face, and received a bloody nose. Hoping it didn't break! She has a mark on the side of her nose, and her eye is turning blue/purple. Didn't keep her from wanting to stay out though! I was only out with Noah for a little while, his first time out. When I brought him back in the house, he started crying when I took off his snowsuit!

Noah also had another first today. He pulled himself up to the couch, but didn't know what to do, so he let go. Of course, down he went. It startled him, but soon he started laughing and trying this new trick again. Tooth #4 is also now in. He now has this little habit he has started while nursing. You guessed it, biting! Not hard, but enough to get a reaction out of me. The bad thing is he knows he is doing it because he gets a little smirk on his face, bites, and then laughs! Of course, I act upset and say"NO!", all the while trying not to laugh with him because I know these little pinches can turn into big problems in the future. I've tried putting him on the floor quickly and now I stop nursing him when he does this. Hoping this is just a stage he is going through and will pass soon. Here is a picture of the newest tooth.

Well, it is my turn to head out to the barn for the evening feedings, and since it is now dark, I best get my chores done. Safe traveling to you all, and enjoy the snow. Spring will be here and gone before we know it!

Ewwww!

I thought I was past being spit up on by Noah, but Josh proved me wrong! I was trying to get pictures of the little boys to show Noah's messed up haircut, and I guess Josh must have been squeezing too hard. When I picked him up, yep,, all down my arm. Josh said "YUCK!!" laughing of course. Most likely thinking glad that wasn't me!
Anyway, it started snowing here this morning and we have about 2". I was thinking of taking the boys out to play, but I knew the big kids sure wouldn't be happy thinking we were out playing while they are stuck at school. So, I decided to give much needed haircuts to the boys. Josh's isn't all that bad, Noah however, sorry little buddy but it will grow out! Next time I will use sharper scissors. The ones I used were so dull, I had to hold little bits of hair and snip while
Noah was trying to get a look at the scissors! Here is before and after shots and one of the snow.

Not so good at keeping up posts!

Hello to all! I thought I had better apologize for not keeping up on my posting better! I know it doesn't take long to publish a post, but I quess I have sorta forgotten lately to write. I'll try to do better.
We haven't really been up to a lot lately, things have slowed down now that the holidays are here and gone. Hard to believe we are already a few weeks into a new year.
Noah is cutting teeth. He just broke #3 through the skin, and #4 and 5 are right behind. Has made for many sleepless nights for him ( and me!), and poor baby, lots of fussing throughout the day. Last night he did very well, however, and slept from 10:30p.m. until 5:30a.m. Now that is a record for him!! I felt so good when it was time to get up! We even had the bonus of a 2 hr delay this morning, due to an unexpected snow last night.
Shawn is back to work after almost 2 wks off, and the older children are back in school. The little ones and myself are back on track, laundry, dishes, lunch, dishes, laundry, supper, dishes, cleaning, my job, etc., with a nap here and there for the little guys. So thankful that I have the privelage to stay home in the day, and can do my cleaning job whenever it fits our schedule. I am going to post some random shots from the past several weeks;Christmas, building our overhang on the barn, one of Dad( our cheif carpenter on the project), New Year's Eve party, Chuck E. Cheese, and Josh and Tinkerbell's rodeo.

Good day!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

Happy New Year to you and yours! This is the time of the year that is famous for "changes". Instead of vowing better changes for my life or body, I only pray to know of having a closer walk with God. The best to each!
